back when Rise Against were sick, their first song off their first record. I was in the pit when they opened in London, I think for Good Riddance, in 2001, just after the album was released.
This is the fun way a concert should be
masterpiece from this great Swedish band
this album
I love this band, they always deal with serious problems like child prostitution, refugees, the meat industry, politics, human rights and desperation. Itās some of the most emotive music Iāve ever heard.
This song is like my life I love these cocksuckers Todd is a beautiful man he wrote this about a refugee
god I love this song, and the line ā Oh take this veil from off my eyes / my burning sun will someday rise
farce and death walk hand-in-hand
graves and memorial walls hold my family name
pills and bottles do the same
I hope that freedomās coming our way
but who am I?
fighting a war that I canāt win
swelling with things we try to hide
you never leave anyone behind
old Bad Religion for the christmas spirit
For the first time Iāve been watching old videos of Rage Against the Machine in late '91, early '92, before they recorded their first album. Even their very first public appearance, with only one dude at the front dancing about, was still a great concert. This one here two to three months before they recorded the album is brilliant and so bloody intense. Holy shit it was awesome. I remember when punk concerts were wild events like this. I donāt know WTF happened to concert experiences but except for NOFX in Amsterdam I donāt see them like this anymore. The dude in the comments who said that concerts used to be wild religious experiences got it right. I wish that would come back. All the unnecessary security at the front and jerk offs with their mobile phones donāt need to be there man.
the difference is that Zack de la Rocha can actually sing live.
yeah and his stage presence is very strong too. That early footage is amazing, before anyone knew their music & before they finished the songs to record them. Right from the very beginning they were special.
YOUR ANGER IS A GIFT!!!
yes I know my enemies
theyāre the teachers who taught me to fight me
compromise
conformity
assimilation
submission
ignorance
hypocrisy
brutality
the elite
all of which are american dreams
Damn Zachās writing was breathtaking on that first album. And not just that but how he said it.
damn Mark E. Smith died yesterday. The Fall are pretty awesome.
like turbines in darkness
like the blood on my door
itās the generator
A friend of mine dropped me a line
It said, āman, I gotta run to the USA
I got no money, got no jobā
She skipped out of Mexico to stay alive
Youāve got a problem with her living here
But what did you do to help her before she fucking came?
What did the country do?
What did the people do?
I stand not by my country, but by people of the whole fucking world
No fences, no borders
Free movement for all
Fuck the border
Itās about fucking time to treat people with respect
Itās our culture and consumption that makes her life unbearable
Fuck this country; its angry eyes, its knee-jerk hordes
Legal or illegal, watch her fucking go
Sheāll take whatās hers
Watch her fucking go
Silence
Something about silence makes me sick
'Cause silence can be violent
Sorta like a slit wrist
If the vibe was suicide
Then you would push da button
But if ya bowinā down
Then let me do the cuttinā
THEREāS SOMEONE WATCHING OVER YOU
INSIDE THEY KNOW WHATāS BEST FOR YOU
Thereās a loser in my house and a puppet on a stool
And a crowded way of life, and a black reflecting pool
And as the people bend, the moral fabric dies
The country canāt pretend to ignore its peopleās cries
CAUSE YOU ARE
THE GOVERNMENT
YOU ARE
JURISPRUDENCE
YOU ARE
THE VOLITION
YOU ARE
JURISDICTION
and I make a difference too
