Evgeny Kissin - repertoire (updated version)

Itz da moz INZANE movement in termz ov ztretchin zheeyatz to itz limitz

itz kind of a wild experiment, and da thematic material iz NOT tier 1 KAN , tiz tier 2…itz very good but not hiz abzolute bezt and he ztretchez it to inzane limitz ov variation and extended fury

I doubt u vil be converted becuz I wuz cuntverted on da firzt eva lizten to da way he developz da material in inzanely exciting wayz

IMO the thematic material is very strong. I remember hearing the first minute or so on Amazon and beeing so exited. Then the CD arrived and it was a bitter dissapointment. It made me understand Why people consider Alkan a 2nd rate composer. The development of the themes was so weak, only pianistic tricks, no substance

:hammer:-:japanese_goblin:-:dagger:

It’s YuGe, but he never bores me for a second. It’s such a ride to listen through. Hamelin devised some cuts for a more practical “performance” edition, but I’d never use them. It’d be like making cuts in the Liszt sonata.

Its late here… read this as commentary on DIrrty til the Kan mention. I saw doc play this live. I think part of the challenge is maintaining some sort of coherent arc through the first movement verbosity.

Just updated Kissin’s repertoire list, with his own corrections. There is always possibility that there is something more, which he didn’t remember at the moment, but generally this is it.
