Favourite conductorz & orcheztraz

I don’t remember what I picked in the end tbh, there was more than 20 concerts to choose from next season. I think I landed on Beethoven’s late quartets. I looked for the Chausson and Ravel’s SQ but they weren’t on the menu.

I have been listening to a lot of Prokofiev lately, and every recording by Nami Järvi is great. Do you guys agree?

I’ll check him out, I juz downloaded Ozawa’z Prick zymph zet becuz tiz wiz da Berlin phil. Brilliant clear zound zo I’m enjoying it.

I used to have the Ozawa set – my first exposure to the syms. I can’t say it was exciting. Since then I’ve heard better performances from Rozh and Gergiev (in concert). I recall something a bit dynamically flat about the Ozawa set

Pozzibly but da Berlin Phil iz alwayz ear porn to me, inzane technical proficiency :doc:

I’m too dumb for that. I just want to hear a huge range and a lot of power. Clean playing a bit meh to me.

I wonder why Mravinsky & Kondrashin didn’t record much Prokofiev. Mravinsky played 5 & 6. Not sure Kondrashin played anything other than Sym 1 (which is great - both piece & interp, equal to Ancerl)

Edit: oh yeah Kondrashin recorded 3 with the Concertgebouw and played 5 in Japan. I haven’t heard these.

Tru dat iz da ideal combo.

Petrenko lookz and zoundz lyk he iz bringin dat gensui combo.

Some random favourites coming to my mind:
Furtwangler (Wagner)
Kleiber (Beethoven, Brahms)
Rozhdestvensky (Prokofiev)
Karajan (Sibelius, Verdi)
Roger Désormière (forgotten master, Richter liked his rec. of La mer the most)
Klemperer (Mahler)
Mengelberg (Mahler)
Munch (Berlioz)
Reiner (Strauss, Bartok)
Jochum (Bruckner)
Cluytens (French repertoire)
Svetlanov (lot of Russian repertoire, Ravel)
Jansons (Brahms, Mahler, Bruckner)
Sawallisch (Schumann)

Vienna and Berlin are still my two fav. orchestras.

Heard a Masur Scherbert great on the radio while back, I remember it being superbly balanced. Just bought his Brahms, will start working through it.

Kertesz in hungarian (and similar) zheeyat is great.
Szell/Cleveland and Previn/LSO other great partnerships.

Historically I love Kondrashin, Klieber, Dorati, and contemporarily I like Gergiev.

I heard two pieces by the Aurora Orchestra recently under Nicholas Conlon and would rather have listened to the Portsmouth Sinfonia or Flo Foster Jenkins. They didn’t understand syncopation in Copland and their rhythm was wayward. I think they should stop disappearing up their own arses and read the fucking score.
