New repertoire/programs of living pianists

Do you know if he has recorded the paraphrases already, or if it’s on his agenda now?

“He will now release a CD of Liszt and Thalberg opera paraphrases.”

Yeah I believe he has said so in several interviews i.e. that he only (or mostly) likes the six first sonatas. Personelly I like some of 7-12 too, especially no. 7 which IMO is a masterpiece

“Hamelin said he wouldn’t record all Feinberg sonatas. He likes the first 3 or 4 very much, but believes the rest are not that good—they are too idiosyncratic, not very intelligible or enjoyable.”

I must disagree with Hamelin there. I believe no.s 5 and 6 at least are as good as anything he has written

This has never stopped him before

At least this didn’t use to stop him, if you think about all the contemporary junk he played early in his career.

He is more mature artist now :sunglasses::grin:

Maybe if he played D.960 less he would like later Feinberg more.

Not to mention he recently did a whole CD of Morton Feldman’s For Bunita Marcus.

on the story of Yuja, I remember a recital I saw years ago in Boston in which everything was good and well played and nice and interesting and had personality, but I remember being especially surprised at her Chopin 3rd sonata… it just blew me away with original ideas and a really wonderful execution, a tremendously moving slow mvt… maybe her on one of her best days? Anyways she is a real musician, imo

I think it’d be better for her if she had been fat and unattractive since she became well known – people have focused on her sex appeal and habits of dress and ‘flashy fingers’ and so on, I really think if she physically looked a little more like da MYRA HESS or da YUDINA she’d be taken more seriously

It’s to his credit that he played some contemporary junk along with the historical curiosities he has become known for; god knows his Beethoven didn’t make him famous

She should lay off the female Hornones and revert back to being a man
