U not zhor a CHOP improv wud zound lyk a furiouz POLOzheeyat? :sunglasses:

Nah, fury improz not pozz fo da tuberculah chop

That my reasoning for pimp, also Chopin not master of but 4 or 5 forms with kind of set styles. Pimp likely got lots more to pull from in true improv licks from trannys and diff rando forms

The reason I love classical music is primarily because of the most serious work: i.e. Beethoven, Bruckner, Mahler symphonies, great sonatas etc. I know, of course, that light music can also be great, but the most amazing music IMO is serious music. This kind of music is not that suitable for improvisation

Dere iz a place in my view fo both but fo zhor dere iz no place to find improv in doze very zeriouz elaborate formz

I mean dat key word - elaborate - an end product dat iz da rezult ov labour

Whereaz an improv by itz nature haz limitz on how complex and elaborate it can be, wizout bein juz random fo da zake ov random

I alzo don’t necezzarily like da term ‘light’ muzik becuz u could zay Chopin’z E minor 28/4 prelude iz relatively zimple and zhort, but it iz incredibly zubztantial in itz emotional weight.

I don’t see why miniatures shouldn’t be improvised. In some sense, I actively think they should be.

Just because classical musicians suck at improvising doesn’t mean large scale improvisation isn’t possible. Jazz giants do it all the time. Of course there’s varying success, that’s the nature of improvisation. It seems to me if you say Jazz is random and simple, you haven’t listened to much jazz.

Anyway, here’s a pretty example that is more classical than jazz in nature - with sheet music to follow along:

Brad Mehldau - solo from ‘My Favourite Things’ where he deconstructs motifs from the theme:

I must say that, although we often slag off the site, on 88zt whoever “quantum” is irl, he’s a damn good improviser.

I like jazz. I really do. I listen to it a lot. However, I have never listened to any jazz music that has the same emotional impact on me as say a Mahler symphony. Not even close. It seams climaxes aren’t as important in jazz as in classical music. It is more about creating «a feel» than anything else

Unless I’ve mentioned it already I’ve finally found a use for jazz as well. They’ve opened an excellent sushi restaurant here just outside town which plays jazz, and it’s spot on as background music. Creates a good atmosphere both for the meal and for stimulating conversation.

I feel that classical musicians often have an inferiority complex towards jazz musicians. But to be honest, I simply like classical music so much more

Impro in a clazzikal cuntcert iz not a gud idea

I mean, wut if da impro end up zoundin mo legendary den every written zong on yo prog

How awkward wud dat be?
