Randomly I have talked with that guy on several occasions. He seems like a bit of a weird dude. I don’t think he even likes music all that much. He just collects for the hell of it.
Somewhere along the line someone told him that Rach 3rd is the hardest piece ever… or else he saw Shine or whatever the hell else gets people so hooked on the Rachmaninoff 3rd.
Personally, I think the piece gets a bit tedious.
I guess we all have our own weird obsessions, but if I was going to pick a piece to listen to THAT many recordings too, it’d definitely be something other than the Rocky 3
koji
Yeah, my obsession is Brahms 1. I’ve heard 96 recordings - though I’m not dumb enough to collect that many. I only have about 40 - but I’ve had and deleted many more(Like Brendel, Schiff, Barenboim etc).
FYI, Kapell on top… of course
there’s another one whom i talked to several times in the past collected 120 different versions of complete
etudes. Chris knows him since he used to be in our jiechen group but randomly got kicked out. anyway, this mofo is another freak. he bought all those 120 cds and now he’s on his way collecting
complete TEs. I’m sure he has managed to buy at least 20 CDs or so.
Hhahahaha but DIZ a rezpecable goal tru

He’s missing Moura Castro…![]()
it’s slow as hell though
tiz mofo ownz da nutzak version.
anyone who is getting into piano watched shine, and gets hooked on the rach 3 instantly. I didn’t even like it that much at first, the impact of the piece in that movie is just awesome. it’s impact is amazing if you’re not into classical music all that much, so i had the same and was just hooked all over it. I still love the piece, but I moved on long ago. ![]()
