I used to call him up and we would play stuff over the phone…Chopin he was workin on and standards and Bud Powell stuff I was working over. A bop flame keeper, a bebop teaching legend. That Maj6th(and min6th)-> dim7 stuff is incredibly practical for voicings and chord movements, as are the running the scales with the add #5 and other 1/2 steps.

I think Barry sat in with Bird when he was about 15 years old when mr. Parker came through his hometown of Detroit back in the day. He also used to talk about good Terry Pollard was. She could play.

Some of the greatest hard bop in my collection, from Birdland featuring 3 tunes with Lee Morgan (tp), Jimmy Heath (ts), Barry Harris §, Spanky DeBrest (b), Albert Tootie Heath (dr). I hope I can find more from this date. They all kill start to finish.
