I personally quite like Mazeppa, but i’m recently taking a keen interest into No. 10, appassionata. I’ve tried a few pages of it, and it’s not as bad as I thought… I just need to better my technique.
I’m happy I saw this message. First off, you know to drink lots of water and take care of yourself physically. But more importantly, and I’m sure you will only be doing this a few times, you need to worry about your brain. It is a fact that x does brain damage each and every time you use it. There are however 2 things you can do to minimize this damage. Using ALA is one of them (there is an article about this on kilosports) and the second is using an SSRI 2-3 hours after taking the x. Ask your friends, I’m sure one of them takes one. Goes by names such as: Prozac, paxil, zoloft, etc… there are several more. Not sure how the the ALA does its’ magic but the ssri will block the toxic amounts of serotonin from damaging your neurons.
This my random description from less to more fave.
Ricordanza and Paysage are so-so on the moiszt-meter and I usually just skip over them.
Feux Follets is an obnoxious piece of music imho, but is a brilliant etude. Da Ash and Rectum play this wikidly.
Preludio, #2, Wilde Jagd, Eroica are not very either deep but are wikid when played with extreme VELOCITY…this is where da bear has time to shine.
I love parts of Chasse Neige, but I find that Liszt over-uses the same idea, which gets a bit tiresome. The same problem (but worse) can be found in the very similar Alkan piece, “le Vent”. No 10 is like Liszt’s take on an idea from 10/9 - but it is really effective. I think Vision is the most underrated TE - it builds drama really well. Berezovsky’s studio recording of 6 is my fave of it.
Mazeppa is a totally convincing when performed right. Arrau actually plays it better than anyone. The octaves and the middle section totally outclass Bear, Whale and everyone else. No 11 is a glimpse of what I believe to be the best of Liszt-Alkan brand of Romantic moiszture - totally honest music.
I said for Mazeppa - which he does play better than anyone. The octaves sound like fucking church organs, and the middle section is PURE MOISZT. Plus he was an old fart when he recorded it.
Listen to Arrau’s Zepp then listen to anyone else’s afterwards. You’ll agree he is totally superior.
