Bought tix to hear Bronfman/Boulez Bark 2 in Chicago, and was just informed that due to illness Boulez has been advised by his doctors not to travel.

Wishing him all the best.

Cristian Macelaru will replace… but this is such bullshit. Obviously the organization is pretty happy, having months to sell out the concert based on Boulez’s appearance. Now they will pocket the difference between his fee and the new conductor’s, which, presumably will not be nearly as high. No partial refund of course…

i’ve heard macelaru before, and he isn’t bad, but man, losing out on boulez sucks. it reminds me of when i was supposed to see aimard, but he canceled because of a leg injury. i got peter serkin instead, which was still sort of awesome, but still. always terrible when someone cancels on you.
