The program suggested by Hamelin for the first part of the finale was composed of following works:
Mario Davidovsky, Synchronisms No 6 for Piano and Electronic Sounds;
Ned Rorem, Study No 1;
John Cage, Étude southern No 29 (delivers 4);
Alexandre Scriabine, Sonata No 7, op. 64;
Charles Ives, Sonata No 2 (Concord, Mass., 1840-1860).
For the test with orchestra, Hamelin played the Concerto for Marc-Andre Hamelin piano and orchestra of Donald Martino.
Wow. What an unusual competition repertoire. No pictures at an exhibition or Appassionata there…
I’ve looked all over for this for about half a year, so I posted it here to save some of you time.
This competition doesn’t seem to be around anymore. Was it specifically for modern rep.?
