Interesting to hear from Bolet the comment that he hated playing crossed hands, and he couldn’t understand why composers were so in love with it.
Part of it’s physical- I don’t have that much flexibility to cross over like that, so I do what i saw most of my teachers who actively concertized did- which is to rewrite things (Beethoven being the exception). Bolet complete rewrote technically the division between the hands in Liszt, and a lot of playing around with it makes one find some of the voicings he has are caused by it (most melodic octave playing in one hand alone he split between the two).
