Yeah, on your side note there seems to be a lot of media normalisation (and promotion!) of far right media figures. Da FAGRAGE (Nigel Farage) has made most appearances this century on the BBC’s flagship political programme (Question Time) - despite having never been elected as an MP (he is an MEP).
Between him and a horrendous print media, ample publicity has been given to the odious notion that immigrants are scrounging, lazy criminals, rapists, paedophiles and terrorists. It’s had a definite impact re Brexit.
Well yes, populist policitians are on the rise but IMO (I think we’ve discussed that before sumwhere here) that’s also because the EU has not been very effective to come with a solid, well-thought out plan or solution regarding protecting borders and tackling certain problems. Because, yes, mass migration to some European countries IS a problem…
Perhaps certain politicians shouldn’t cause refugee crises by bombing the living shit out of distant countries and thinking there will be no consequences. Also I think there’s a colonial after-effect in some cases plus global economic disparity is also a driving factor. Anyway, perhaps this isn’t the best thread for this…
