Most of the Op. 10 No. 2’s were too heavy, and the ones that were not were too slow.
You almost never heard a 10/4 played straight, and when it is played straight it was boring as hell.
10/5 is one of the easier Etudes, and therefore it was one of the most succesful[/b].
n by far da moz LEGENDARY:
10/12 was always played with a lot of fury, so much fury in fact that one cannot hear any tension in the music. Particularly there was an American pianist who played that Etude at such a tempo that one note ran into the next, and there was absolutely no clarity, AND it was loud. Funnily he was overheard calling some other pianist’s playing loud and fast. I had hoped that he would have had more emotional content, and more musical sense based on the composer’s thoughts rather than his own.
