It was actually shipped from NY to Tokyo, and then (after 5-6 years?) from Tokyo to London. I’m afraid I don’t have all the details to hand, as that was around 8 years ago, but I think it was quite straightforward. I don’t think it was fiendishly expensive either (sea freight is fine for a piano, so long as it is properly stored – e.g. temperature and humidity controlled etc). It may be worth getting some quotes in? Sorry not to be able to help more!
Oh yeah, I forgot your parents moved to Japan after NYC (but you were already at uni then, no?). It’s still probably 3-5 years before I’d be in a position to ship mine over (basically when I settle down to a life in the suburbs), but I’m glad that it’s feasible because I love that piano and would hate to have to sell it.
