Well I’m on holidays now so will post for the next few weeks. But then I’ll leave again. A week on you tube has convinced me that the internet is a colossal waste of time.
I have a few vids that you might like: Schiff/Rattle bartok 1 and 2, Andsnes Grieg concerto (from the Proms 2002), a random Andsnes doco with excerpts of Rach3, lyric pieces and chamber music.
Post here if you want them, if there’s no interest I won’t bother, I don’t know whether you like these pianists or not.
Also, I don’t actually know how to rip from DVD and compress so if someone wouldn’t mind explaining how, it would be appreciated.
Ok guys, I’ll post the Andsnes doco, I was watching it again this morning it is pretty good. I’ve just dloaded autogk, it seems rather more complicated then I had hoped! (I’ve been getting nothing but errors so far). So it may take me a few days to work it out. I’ll try to keep the quality as good as I can without making the file(s) gigantic.
If this goes well, I’ll post the Grieg concerto in the next few weeks, and (permission pending!) maybe a HOG vid.
It would be nice if someone could. Having just spent the last 3 weeks studying like a madman, I’m not particularly enthused at the prospect of reading through a ton of FAQs and tutorials to work out what the hell I’m doing wrong, my brain needs rest!
I hope it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that these are DVD+Rs. They seem to play fine on my computer, so I hope they can be ripped.
I’ve managed to copy the 5 VOB files onto my comp. When I try to convert (and reduce the size) of the first it comes up with a “no video stream found” error, but the second VOB turned out fine. It has the second half of the Andsnes doco on it and the Bartok 2. I’m really happy with the Andsnes but the Bartok is, for some reason, tremendously out of sync. So it may take me a while longer to get it right. I’ll try to cut off the second half of the Andsnes (with the Rach 3 bits) and upload that if you like. Hopefully I will be able to sort out the problems with the first VOB file and the Bartok sync soon. The Grieg is one a different DVD, I’ll get to that afterward.
Yeah I’m using autogk. I am battling with VirtualDub to try to cut out the second half of the Andsnes from the out of sync bartok, with no success. I hate being so technologically-challenged.
Btw does anyone know why the video would just start going out of sync? it is absolutely fine until the start of the Bartok. Perplexing.
Perhaps I will PM him, but he doesn’t seem to be around much atm. I have managed to turn the whole DVD into a 500 MB avi file. I edited it in VirtualDub so that it was just the Andsnes (since the bartok is out of sync). When I try to “save as AVI” it turns a 500 mb file into a 25 Gb file! WTF?!!
