random question

i’m entering a small competition which asks for 4 pieces of the “4 styles”

do you think the barber fugue counts as “contemporary style”?

do you think one can get away with just programming that movement, and not the rest of the sonata, knowing that there is no way they could hear it all anyway (it’s a 15 minute audition)?

Fuck NO

(I didn’t read your question btw I just wanted to say no to your question)

the barber would work well, especiall if you played it well. its definitely contemp, and definitely not romantic.

Technically I suppose it is classified as neo-romantic or neo-tonal, but for the purposes of most competitions it would probably count as contemporary. I actually thought about ending a competition program with the Barber Fugue. It would probably work very nicely.

Sam

I’m a bit wary of separating it from the rest of the sonata, but if you want to try…? Even though it’s hardly “contemporary” now, it will count that way for purposes of most competitions.

thanks guys

i might learn some ives, though…not sure

tru…your welcome

oddly enough, it’s you’re advice i seem to be leaning towards.
