recommend me a good recording of Chopin etudes...........

I see various cd’s of the Complete Etudes that I can buy, what performer would you recommend?

Pollini or Cziffra

Ruznak is pretty good, definately worth the money

OROZCO

pozz Sokolov but i only heard tha Op. 25 i think

orozco
gavrilov
pollini (the young one but i havent got a chance to hear)
Cziffra
Cortot

I strongly dislike Pollini, but I LOVE that recording. Shame he couldn’t have stayed 14 forever

Orozco is somewhere on the top list for sure.

I recently listened to Bunin and was quite disappointed. I expect alot from him.

Backhaus is pretty damn good too for Chopin Etudes.

Yeah, Young Bachkaus really had some phenomenal Chopin playing. Fast as hell too, I think i recall a 1:08 10-2.

My current favorite set is by David Saperton.

Sheesh, I’ve been meaning to pick that set up for a long time - sorta though it would suck though.

How are the various Godowsky Etudes on there?

Freire’s Decca set is beautiful :chop:

Isn’t Freire’s Decca set only Op 10 + the second sonata?

I think there’s a Freire Op 25, but I’m not sure I’ve seen it around.

Decca issued each CD separately.

op.10 + sonata no.2
op.25 + sonata no.3

Speaking of which, I still haven’t had a chance to get his 4 Scherzi CD.

I have the Scherzi

Post the Sonata 3 disc and I’ll throw the Scherzi your way.

anyone has the fou ts’ong set?

double O for me

Ohlsson
Orozco

and that rare Ashk rec, wow.

I REALLY want to hear the Freire - he’s amazing.

im not sure if he recorded the complete chopin etudes. i only have chopin nocturnes, mazurkas, concerti and debussy cd. I’m trying to get my hands on his mozart sonatas CD but gees, that’s long out of print.

Cziffra’s is a special set.

For me, the best.
