Anyone been following this? or capping (cvx?). I might head up to Syd for the finals.
I was gonna say, when was this gonna get mentioned. (Prolly coulda done it myself but…)
I haven’t been overly impressed so far besides a quite amazing Islamey yesterday. There was a terrible Debussy on the Yamie which was so thin!
I’ve been listening today. It’s been pretty solid, though nothing has really impressed me. I’ve booked my tix for finals (both days - non mozart). Couldn’t get fabulous seats but whatever.

you can listen to the previous rounds here.
man, so far the 17-year old has played better Mozart concerti than most of the others (including ALL of the people who played k.466)
3xk466 2xBflat. Must have been dead boring for the audience. I’m heading to Sydney this arvo should be fun. Esp looking forward to the SS2.
Dang, no Aussies made it through. Good to see some different concerti in the final instead of all Rach and Brahms.
I iz back. claqued about 800 bucks on the trip (or rather my Dad did) but was good sheeyat. Bought a stack of CDs too.
The Russian guy who played prok 2 won, followed by the chick who played SS2 and the Israeli with the Prok 3. I didn’t listen much to the prior rounds so can’t really comment on the final results but according to concerto performance I ranked them:
- Beethoven Emperor (I do NOT like this piece, but he was VERY musical)
- Prok 3 (very exciting)
- Prok 2
- SS 2 (excellent playing but hardly the most difficult concerto either technically or musically)
- Tchaik 1
- Beethoven 4 (This kid should not have played this, he had a very exaggerated rubato and the 2nd movt was too slow)
hmmm, that prok 2 was mildly boring. the first movement went NOWHERE
dank paid for his tempo dearly in the last movement of prok 3, but it sure as hell was exciting
oh well. competitions, etc.
