A little bit at least but it’s not about beauty is it. I know that for some people, civilized playing with hygienic pedaling, a beautiful sound, “tasteful” interpretations etc is always a must but personally I think it needs to adapt to the music. A downright ugly tone might only be desirable for a certain chord or similar, in certain compositions, but even over time I definitely think a case can be made both for violence, muddied pedaling, piercing sounds etc if they’re used in a musical context. Look at how Richter treats a Beethoven sonata for instance, and was Horowitz’s tone really beautiful? Sometimes maybe, but more often than not it was rather clear and striking.

Damn

Pozz, but the 30’s Horowitz tone WUZ bootiful. Yes, even on one note.

Frankly, I don’t think that tone quality should ever become harsh, but “pounding” for effect, when you have the braindead masses waiting to clap - is ok :sunglasses:

daim, da :bride_with_veil: doesn’t know what she’s missing
