Yeah, it’s pretty much all wrist. The trick is actually to keep your hand pretty tense (imagine you’re grabbing a pencil with your 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers), but keep the wrist and arm loose.
Out of sheer ignorance, I did the Waldstein glisses in the last movement as solid octaves, which prompted a lot of head-scratching and snickering (my octave glissandos suck anyway).
Isn’t there a sort-of-established school of people who do play the Waldstein octaves as non-glissando? I do that myself because I can’t slide with that kind of stretched position.

HAHAHA… I just tried to do the same. I made a video holding my phone between my chin and collarbone. I’ve almost got the speed, but couldn’t do it for more than 35 secs. And mine sounds like crap

Yeah, you are definitely not the only one who’s octave glissandos suck; most people don’t even have an octave glissando. That’s excellent that you have the ability to actually play the octaves in the Waldstein that fast.
It was funny seeing my buddy in Undergrad lick his thumbs before executing them in his senior recital. He also had a face resembling far too much anticipation. Heh it was priceless.
