I guess I’m the only one on here hu lyk da Gould. Ztill, can’t vote him ovah Gilelz, zo a tie then
I don’t dislike everything with Gould - I think his 1955 Goldbergs is still one of the best alternatives out there for instance, and I also like him in several of the Bach concerti. Probably something more I’ve forgotten. But overall he’s really not a pianist for me. Flat, linear, zero ability with sound, mechanical phrasing etc etc, and a huge chunk of recordings which are musically ludicrous. Overall I think he’s in the de Pachmann category of pianists - but when it comes to Bach no doubt an important and hugely influential one. There’s “before & after” Gould with Bach in the same way there is before and after Chopin with Rubinstein, or Beethoven with Schnabel (although I think AS more summed up the consensus of the time as it were rather than did something entirely new on his own, but he did set the benchmark).
Wut about hiz Brahmz? I adore it
** hides in a freezer **
Gonna take that as a no. I wuz thinking about intermezzi and not concerti btw
