As a set, I actually like them better than either book of Chopin’s etudes. But I think Richter had the right idea in making a selection (the same goes for the Chopets). My favourites are 5,6,7,8,9. I’ve never been an huge fan of 10, 11 depends on the interpreter and 12 I’m fairly indifferent too this days.
What do you think of the Lyapunov set? Which are your faves from that?
#12 is epic and really worthy of being an elegy for Liszt. I like them all.
I don’t know which ones my favourite tbh. I do like the set though.
Scherbakov is good for them, Kentner has to be the best set though.

I love them. I’m genuinely unable to formulate an argument as to why the Liszt TEs are better.
My favourites are possibly 2, 5 and 9. I’ve played 5 and 12 in public (albeit a long time ago). 12 is maybe a bit verbose; I’m not sure. It’s still a kickass piece.
I disagree actually. IMO as a set, either opus 25 or 10 have more mu*ical value.
Perhaps you will experience this differently in future, but as I grew older, the Chopin pieces always stayed close to me, I can come back to any of them without getting fed up or being bored. The same is not true for several pieces of the TE set…in fact the only ones I’m still really interested in are Feux follets, Wilde Jagd, Ricordanza, Appassionata and Harmonies du soir.

Though I should add that from da 5 I mentioned, da Ricordanza is my least favorite noize - but it haz some haunting passagez, some of da mozt beautiful he evah wrote IMO.
