another piano test

Kinda tempted to buy this grand but… space and finance considerations

Anyway, a second visit. My portable mic wouldn’t come on even with battery phantom power :frowning: wtf.

Some samples. I’ve got raw wav files if anyone is interested but the vids have had the wavs inserted into them after I ran them through basic noise reduction. I played some other stuff too but didn’t rec all of it, should have recced the depussy warmup probably but who wants to hear arabbitesque no 1 from memory 20 years aftah I last played it

Pimp Isolde, just played second half, my control isn’t fully there at low dynamics but dat’z a mattah of getting used to da action:

Thalburglah arp orgy:

Improv with random bits of Bellini parasheeyat stuff:

I’m got more samples but that should be enuff for opinions from my fellow mofoz on the sound. Portable recorder with internal mic so likely not optimal for clarity but my best mics I need a mixing desk to connect to the recorder and I’m fucked if I’m carrying that around. Some of the upper treble clearly needs a touch of tuning.

Genuinely quite conflicted over dis 88 az u can pozz tell from mah rambling :smiling_imp:

I think the piano lacks a certain character (not unusual for Yamaha) but on the other hand it has a pleasant sound overall. The high(er) tones don’t convince me though that may be because the instrument is rather out of tune!

Dude. It sounds pretty damn great.

Most digital recs make yamaha top notes sound tinny when they are actually great.

I request a test of repeated notes - if tiz good - buy the fuckah.

Or get the cheapest $50 upright to RAPE every day 8)

Well you see nobody thinks the same about this, it’s very much about personal preferences…
There are so many things to consider when buying a (used) GP: how much are you going to play on it, in what space, has the space climate control, how is the condition of the hammers/action, what is your budget, what kind of character you prefer etc. etc.
It seems you like the instrument, otherwise you wouldn’t come back to it again. Personally, and AFA I know your playing, I’d probably buy a (used) German piano that has a bit more distinct, warm sound.

Oh I agree btw…

Yamahas are very delicate and not exactly durable practice instruments.

I prefer to go to a random heavy, sturdy Steinway with a dull tone - when I really break in rep.

Randomly - I prefer slightly heavier pianos for performances too

AHAHAHAHAH DIZ, REZPEC da ZMOOTH THALBUGLAH ARP UNLEAZH, diz evidently a BOB CLAZZIC

tho i think u need to tezt da BAZZ a bit mo wiz zum CAMELHOFF movez 8)

i predickt diz mofo cummah wiz a

2500 pound price tag 8)

Mannn, diz fuckah roughly $5k USD, tru?

Da festin randomly got a full, projecting tone

The price is an issue. If it was at zepp’z 2.5k I would already haff bought dis 88 and said to hell with da space /storage implications but we are talking more like double that.

Da bazz is bettah den da high treble imo and has camelhoof potential for sure. TM worries me with the durability cumments, I don’t want to impro and parasheeyat the thing to pieces.

And yeah I do like the instrument. I liked it right from the start. I think there’s a certain lack of definition but it has a nice warm, mellow tone which I like in dis rep.

A nice warm, mellow tone is quite rare for a Yamahaha
My guess is that it won’t have these qualities for very long
About 5000 euro for a used one is not exactly a bargain…but it depends in what condition it’s in

HAHAHAHA zo da TRUMOFO eztimate bazically zpot-on, REZPEC :lib:

mannnnn diz remind moi

da ROBBAH once pazzed on a random ancient ZTEINWAY grand at 8k CAD (pozz 4500 poundz) cuz zome mofo told him old zteinvayz r a bit zheeyat :sunglasses:

Haha, maybe. It does seem in good repair, other than needing a tuning. Difficult to know what a year of ziff bee octz will do though

Ahahaha fuck! Probably wuz a bargain :frowning:

Yes, Yamahas in general have very sturdy action, holds up over the years with no hammer issues or stuck keys, or key noise etc

However - due to the frame tension designed for maximum sound projection and brightness - it is VERY easy to break a string.

I have a C3 model and the same second-lowest bass string snapped 3 times already.

On the other hand - you get immense power, feedback and depth from a small instrument - it has the response of a concert grand.

Is it a good piano to pound the fried rice out of with a Brahms Paganini, Liszt Sonata and Prok 6 orgy? No - it’s not going to handle your thick cock like a pro - it’s not a JAV star, bro

Long story short - nice tone, great action, superb pedal regulation, unforgiving clarity perfect for cultivating a singing touch - but not a durable 88.

I pounded the cocksuck out of my C3 and I haven’t played full force on it since 2010. Basically I retired the slut from the industry.

Yeah I did feel I was getting gud sound projection from it. I wuz going to retain one of da to upright 88s I have for run of the mill pazzage repetition but yeah it would be getting big pieces played on it, no pretty girly zartzonz. I need to return to da KANZYMPH and da FEZTIN at sum point.

Hahaha fuck!

I’m supposed to be learning a CAMEL zpecial - da NIOBE. A fair bit of pounding involved dere :rectum:
