Do you prefer colouristic pianism or 'bigger picture' pianism?

Of course in an ideal world we want a bit of both, but some pianists definitely trend toward colouristic pianism that places priority on the momentary shades of tone and rubato that a pianist with a wide palette of colours can bring…and on the other hand other pianists aren’t known so much for momentary details but the broader picture of musical relativity connecting the dots and providing pleasure by making sense of larger structures.

It’s kind of like General Relativity compared to Quantum Physics. Music is all about pitches related to eachother in time - some focus more on the micro relations and some more on the macro relations - aka the bigger picture.

If you had to pick one - which do you generally favour?

In what work?

In general, I know it makes it incredibly difficult to answer but the point is to go with your first instinct.

Bigger picture is all me. But I like detailed oriented as well in smaller works, and sometimes even in larger.

Definitely bigger picture. Colour does not matter much for me in all non French rep. It’s kinda like the cherry on top.

Da FUCKIN COMME :sunglasses:
