I have a Richter Rach 1, the second movement is gorgeous but overall the ROCK, HOG and Janiz iz da tru sheeyat. Diz iz mah favourite concerto marginally ahead of da RUBY 3.
No, no, no. I have been misunderstood. “Silly Billy” refers to the nickname of the great renaissance composer William Byrd. It is not meant as an attempt to degrade the drama/poetry of Grieg’s piano concerto, but rather to assert it. However I did not place the Grieg concerto in my top 5 because although it is a masterpiece, it does not approach the scope of the Brahms’ concertos.
There is a certain olympian grandness to the Brahms’ concerto (and the beethoven) that you do not find in the Grieg. It contains all the elements that make a concerto great; The piano and the orchestra seem to be engaged in an Olympian struggle, but there are also meoments where the piano and orchestra are engaged in more intimate conversation. There are meditative moments, and moments of introspection. You can tell that the Brahms’ concerto is a more spiritual piece not to mention being more mature in form.
The two mozart concertoes 22,23 (I accidentally wrote 25) are on my list because for me there is a certain honesty/vulnerability that you hear in 23 that you dont hear in any other concerto. Mozart was not one to express his feelings/ideas in his music, but you there truly seems to be a special quality about this one concerto. No 22 for me is nearly perfect in form. For me it represents one of the pinacles in classical concerto literature.
There is too much that one could say about the beethoven concertoes. They demonstrate a lot of innovation and wit. Prior to beethoven, no piano concertoes had been so dramatic, rhythmich or pertained such immense beauty.
no. you’re stupid if you dis people for hating on them.
pianistically speaking, maybe so, but the concertos themselves have the SHITTIEST orchestration ever done by a composer. Compare it to your own fucking Rach 3 man, there’s a huge difference in “effing brilliance”.
seriously, are you trying to tell me that the orchestrating is not obviously shittier than the Prok, Rach, Scriabin, Tchaik, Saint Saens, Beethoven, Mozart, etc etc?
it’s no secret that he sucked at writing for orchestra, which is probably why he never wrote for orchestra alone.
FUCK YOU IN THE DOUBLE ASSHOLE (DA HOLE AND DA MOUTH) ARE YOU DISSING ME CHOP ??? ARE YOU ???
LOOK , THIS BULLSHIT ABOUT CHOPINS ORCHESTRATION , EVERYBODY TALKS ABOUT IT ETC. BUT THERE ARE SO FEW TRU PERFORMANCES OF DIZ CONCERTOZ , DO U KNOW DA ZIM’S CHOP PIANO CONCERTOS WIF DA POLISH FESTIVAL ? THA ONE HE CONDUCTED HIMSELF BECAUSE HE STOPPED TRUSTING STUPID PEOPLE …
GO LISTEN TO IT ! IF U DUN HAFF IT I SHALL UPLOAD IT FOR YOU BECAUSE U ARE IN A DARK PERIOD !!!
no reason to get so excited, i don’t like his orchestration, it’s obviously worse than the other orchestrators mentioned, so what.
it’s practically been proven - he can’t mix timbres, can’t voice, it’s like a piano with some orchestral accompaniment rather than your usual PC
This doesn’t mean that I don’t like him, I just don’t like his concertos. Who gives a fuck, music is subjective, I don’t flame you for it, and quite frankly, I don’t give a shit if you disagree
i’ve heard ZIM recs of it, not sure if I have heard the Polish festival ones though
if you post a rec, and i listen and actually go “wow, this is good” then that would be pretty incredible, and highly unlikely
I love the Chop concerti just the way they are, but then again I don’t usually give a flying fuck about the orchestra subject to a few random exceptions.
