Chopet 10/2 is really really too far above those who need agility in 3/4/5 - you’ll need some level of skill there already before you can even go near it (just as you need to have LH skillz before you do the 10/12). Then again, I can’t think of anything that can go below that… Hanon?
Well, i made up an exercise to help with th pinky and thumb. It’s mainly for extreme beginners, but i wanted to see what you guys thought. You place 2 3 and 4 on f# g# and a# and play one of the white notes with either 5 or 1 without pressing a black note. Sounds kind of racist doesn’t it?
Uhm, in fact I never did any purely technical practise like Hanon, Czerny, Brahms Exercises, etc.
I achieved the technical level I have by playing pieces and learning stuff in there. Played a few Chopin Etudes in lessons (no1, 5, 10, 12, 18, 21) back when I took lessons and played some more on my own (9, 13, 14, 17, 23).
Looking back I’d wish to have started playing piano much earlier and being forced to do Czerny practise
Same, actually. My teacher never made me do any of that stuff, she always preferred to let me learn through playing pieces that could make me develop musically at the same time while emphasising that I could only “express” if I didn’t have trouble with the notes.
I tend to agree with duchable, after several years of trying to improve tech through pieces, I went to scales, arps and exercises and finally got somewhere. I’m not saying that you still don’t have to devise exercises for tricky passages but for overall finger strength and coordination scales/exercises has really helped. At the end of the day you should try different things and stick to what works for you.
