Tru, randomly da post-romantic modernist vibe of many buz compos juz not to ma taste, even if I appreciate da compo skill.
Da Godo is like a 10-tier dessert, layers of sponge cake, custard Icecream, fruit, pudding - all phenomenal but not accessible to most mofos.
U know each of dose components wuz painstakingly crafted but diz still dismissed as juz a dessert by mofos.
Sum outright dun consume dat much sugar. Othas is lactose intolerant n can’t handle sum particular aspect of it
Da average mofo might appreciate it from afar but only da select few can make sense of it n demolish it like Yuka Kinoshita.
Busoni is much more right brain half. Like Liszt he sees an artistic idea right at the horizon, and grasps for it - rarely reaching all the way there, but he often throws you in directions unexplored in music earlier. Godowsky is more pianist/craftsman, Busoni more artist/philosopher.
Hehe, I only glanced over it a little now but what I picked up reminded me of what they said about the young Liszt, “The blade has worn out the scabbard”. It’s written by a man so intelligent he barely makes sense.
This is very Busoni:
“What seek you? Say! And what do you expect?”— “I know not what; the Unknown I would have! What’s known to me, is endless; I would go Beyond the end: The last word still is wanting.”
And this is very TRU:
The spirit of an art-work, the measure of emotion, of humanity, that is in it—these remain unchanged in value through changing years; the form which these three assumed, the manner of their expression, and the flavor of the epoch which gave them birth, are transient, and age rapidly.
