Imagine if #metoo existed back in da day.

Damn, a friend of mine also knew a dude who attended a Cherkassky rectal back in da day.
Da dude got an invite from da Cherk to chill wiz him in his hotel, and also got chased around da fuckin room!
Damn, diz tech.
I’m assuming da Cherkassky cock-catching tech was a slow as his Chopets
Hahaha! Actually I don’t remember hiz chopets being slow. But basically everything he played later on in life was slow and sheeyat.
I was also told that there was a saying amongst London piano tuners that if da Jerkassky said there wuz a problem with da pedals… juz don’t bothah!
Meaning he played wiz no pedal?
Nope. There would be fuck all wrong with the pedal he wanted checked. It was just an excuse to get his hands on some 88 tunah azz.
Ahahahah fuckkkkkk diz tech
Randomly da chick in yo firzt ztory haff a rite to be doubly pizzed

Nooooooooo.
With Shura I’ve gone from being firmly in the ridiculous camp to a supporter. TM is right that he had no business in the Don Juan etc (and it’s kinda cute that he kept insisting on playing them), but he could do pure magic with Chopin and shorter moizt pieces, right up until 1995, and when on his recitals were always a lot of fun. I wish I had heard that sound of his live - several older friends have said some of their fondest concert memories came at Cherkassky’s recitals.
I dunno man, I have a Chopin 2 from the 70s which I remember as being painful to listen to.
I actually quite liked him in the 50s when his tech was in tact. The main problem is he lacked fury. I can see why you’d like him though, he seems more like your kind of pianist than mine. Although I did collect his recordings about 10 years ago.
Yes, he was wildly uneven. I can definitely find poor things from him at any season - indeed, almost at any concert - but it’s the good stuff which matters.
True though, fury is not part of the equation. The attraction is in sound, colour & imagination.
I think I told you this before X, but I heard Chercrackers live and it was one of those unforgettable piano experiences. His sound in the Brahms Sonata 3 was out of this world…
Now, back to da hands…
pozz da X zhud pozt one or two rezitalz in defenz of da Zhura
It will at least be easier to defend his playing than his #metoo status
In defenz:
Lovely playing, to add to the campest stage entrance evah.
To be honest I don’t think Cherkassky needs a defense.
His capricious, spontaneous, colourful music making and unique sound are instantly recognizable and quite legendary. At live performances you never knew what you could expect, but at his best he was unforgettable…
I actually really don’t like this performance.
edit: quotes fucked up…
Yes, Shura never tried to make these big statements with what he played. It was all about fun & wackiness, coupled with one of the richest and most colourful soundworlds in history. He could really take you places when he felt like it. I don’t know, I always feel a bit like this after listening to one of his concerts.
Hahaha
