just as predicted.
Maybe he should stay away from standard rep.
i’ll give that a big amen
do you like his debussy preludes? his haydn is great too. but i guess richter gets your vote?
You’re pretty much the only pianist I’ve encountered (even among Hamelin fans) who considers the Haydn sonatas he recorded, “great”.
To each his/her own, though.
Haha, exactly. I didn’t find them to be even decent, let alone ‘great’. Personally I’ll take Ax and even Brendel or Schiff over Hamelin. And of course Richter over all of the above.
There is not one piece of ‘standard’ repertoire that Hamelin plays well, imo.
haha. i think i’ll shut up now…
i respect you guys too much… maybe my ears are broken.

really? ive met quite a few. but i would personally say that his recordings of haydn are good, but not the best. i dont even know if i can call them great. but they are definitely at least good.
OR MAYBE PEOPLE LIKE HAMELINS RECORDINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH UNCRITICAL AND UNAWARE OF THE SUPERIOR ALTERNATIVES THAT EXIST IN THE CATOLOG.
^^ give this man an apple pie
