ahahahahah tha doc zhud make a complete ZART zonz dizc i think
hes already doing a double disk of haydn sonatas. possibly mozarts will come later.
Wow, I can’t even tell you how not interested I am in the Haydn.
Hamelin really should stick the obscure music, imo.
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA DA MART
IMO, he should totally leave Reger alone.
Reger is a god, shouldn’t trifle with powers that he doesn’t want to mess around with.
Hopefully this doesn’t inflate his ego.
uhhh, no. hamelin’s reger recordings are much better than others ive heard. his bach and telemann variations are legendary recordings, along with, of course, the humoresques.
I voted “tru”.
I kinda agree. I think he is best in music of a certain harmonic complexity. He can of course play some standar rep(Albeniz iberia for instance) on a very very high level.
Do you have a recording of his Var & Fugue on Bach, Op. 81 you’d dare to share? Sources I read vary as to whether he is a fantastic composer or someone with a sheer over-abundance of notes.
hahaa i didn’t know tiz possibl to have over abundance of notez
I think I made the right decision voted “tru”. Way too many ppl praise him for his obscure music. One important I want to make is that so very few pianists play it and it’s really hard to draw a comparison (some of you have only, what, 3-4 recs of the same work or less including Hamelin). Some of those works are played by, err, sheeyat pianists…maybe. Thus, the conclusion saying Hamelin is best is rather biased, unpersuasive statement.
Maybe in the future pianists will care more about composers the doc has been playing, but as far as I’m concerned, Hamelin’s playing is totally bland particularly in Schumann, Chopin, Schubert, Beethoven, Bach…etc.
I think this probably applies to his playing in obscure music too. We just need more available recs. That’s all.
Is Hameilin a good musician? I would say “yes” and also “no” at the same time, though I’m more inclined to the latter. Is he a good technician? undoubtedly “yes”.
I admire da doc greatly. But I will admit it is largely for his tremendous technical facility. He is one of my favourite pianists to watch, everything is just so neat and efficient; it is really awe-inspiring. I think he is good musically too, but a bit subtle for my taste.
kritty, you just havent heard enough of his live recs, which are composed largely of mainstream rep, which i think he plays well. he also seems to pay attention to musicality more than in his studio recs. and just because someone doesnt record much mainstream rep doesnt give you a reason to hate someone.
ok, for critizing da Doc’z ztandard repotire
judge on da Doc’z 2 Pimp CD, and da live Totentanz
Go~
he actually has 3 pimp CDs. the first i consider the best (the oine with norma and dj). it has the most pianistic and musical recordings of the 3. the one with the HRs is my least favorite. the recs are the shallowest. the one with the pagets is pretty good, but also a little on the shallow side. and his live totentanz is shameful next to any of da ziff’s live totentanzes.
U CANNOT TALK NEGATIVELY ABOUT DA DOC EVER EVER EVER AGAIN
understood? ok thanks… go listen to his prelude and fugue and change your mind
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA A FUCKIN GREAT POZT!!!
