Let me put it this way....

Crap, I was looking forward to this. It’s not available in my country, f’n USA.

Speaking of which, does anyone have Afanassiev’s latest recording of Beethoven sonatas on Sony?

It’s available as an import in the US for like 50 USD and I’m not going to spend that amount of money on a CD.

Just use a free VPN or even online Proxy (w/ YT access) and run that video to yo pleasure.

I haven’t heard the Afanassiev CD either.

If anyone wants a live complement to Melnikov’s studio Shostakovihc P&Fs, one’ll be broadcast tomorrow

Thanks for the advice.

Who’s the woman in your avatar?

Irina Berkovich (b.1952), she studied with Yakov Flier and placed third at the '80 Bach Competition. I’d love to get some recordings of her. There’s just a video of a Beethoven PC on YT.

For whatever reason I keep confusing you with Brew since you changed. I guess it resembles one he’s had earlier.

I must be the only one who looks at the usernames rather than the avatar.

okay I’ve changed to Grinberg

Well, I didn’t mean it like that, but Grinberg is certainly fine too.

Here’s a happier Ivo pic for you mate. The whole series of these was hilarious, when he was chugging beer and topless in the spa. That was around his ultra-depressive interp period in 2003 or so.

oh my god sorry I didn’t know it would mega expand

Our friend Rolf reviews a Beatrice Rana recital (spoiler: he liked it).
I really like the way this mofo reviews concerts; he’s very concrete and cites Chapter and Verse.
It give me something to hold onto, unlike the standard Truman-Sokolov review which is just a series of superlatives.
Did we ever find out if this guy records?
If he doesn’t he must write notes as he’s listening. I can’t see how else he would do it, unless he has a freakish memory.

He sort of doesn’t, I talked to him a little a few weeks ago. Our mate Rolf in Zurich is a law abiding citizen, as he made clear to me in five languages at the time. Nice chap though. I also sent him Mademoiselle de la S’s recital last week, but he never got back to me.

Does anyone know where I can get a good copy of this BBC broadcast of the '66 Leeds Comp? It’s got footage of Kruchin, Nasedkin and Postnikova. There is a longer copy on YT but it doesn’t look any better.

I have a 40 minute BBC documentary of the 66 comp if you want?
The quality is alright, considering it’s been sitting on my comp since 2006.

In fact it’s the same two part doco our friend anima uploaded on youtube.
So the quality isn’t any better.

oh so Anima is Erik. Thanks anyway Brew. I imagine a good HD copy exists somewhere.

If I remember correctly the original uploader here was runthebulls.
I haven’t seen him on here for years but maybe he has a higher quality version.

Edit:

actually it was some dude called manxxxxii.
