More About Hatto... Scarlatti

A prominent London manager was informed by some early-music fans that based on specific ornamentation sequences, the recordings used in Hatto’s Scarlatti were in fact those of Sergei Babayan! I asked him what his reaction was, and he said he was flattered. Can you imagine, that some people can recognize pianists/recordings based on the ornaments?? That is off da hook… :pimp:

It doesn’t surprise me too much - with hindsight, how a performer takes ornamentations may be one of the greatest identifiers of their playing. Can’t say I wouldn’t be flattered, either, had a hypothetical recording of mine been nicked by ‘Hatto’

Some of his Mendelssohn Songs without words were also used by Hatto and co.
