These recordings make me sad for day when articulation was part of technique. Now pianists flopping loose ass hands across keyboarod giving tonal splendor of stomping on cheese and they are called super virtuosi.

I watch articulation carefully to the extent that I also have to make sure not to overproject in the smaller spaces I play in (for now)
literally all we worked on with my mum for years and years was projection and clarity.
BTW I use weight tech too but not in an obvious way

I wonder if he could get away with detache style cuz he has a insanely powerful tricked out piano with two sound boards?
when playing in a rec studio you basically have to go for dynamic extremes but also making sure the tone sounds pleasant and a more “cottony” forte with only a sparing use of more extreme “bite” tends to rec smoother
but in a concert hall, you def gotta play all the way back to the last row

I think Hofmann really did focus on projection and was changing it up because of HUGE spaces he was in. Same goes for Ho
unfair to hear a closely mic’d rec in that context. IMO

makes sense why he had to articulate like hell. Also, articulation sometimes not even more "volume’… it’s “projection”
Lol my mum still gets on my case about “exactness” of tone etc. Mum we’re in 2025. Nobody hears much of a difference.

right now as I prep for the rec sessions I’m trying to get more a “deep tone” thing going with plenty of bass and not too much pokey treble.
Just records smoother. Way more una cords usage too.

That mic alignment plugin I have dynamically fixed low frequency cancellation in polyphonic sheeyat. I used it on the Kentner don juan shh don’t tell!
