Performances that converted you to liking a pieice

Either liking the piece just in their performance, or to the extent where you just ‘get’ the piece now and enjoy other perfs via it being unlocked by a certain performance, specify which!

Prime example for me -

Cziffra - Schumann Toccata. Still my fave perf and actually somewhat enjoy other perfs, but still not that much.

Demidenko converted me on da Scrib Cuntcerto.

What do you think of Schiff’s Scarlatti?

So basically, you just off not liking anything?

Quickly, but no the general composers there were very early. My brother got me in to classical music by borrowing me 10 CDs and forcing me to listen to them. Pletnev’s Beethoven disc and a random Chopin disc by Tomsic caused me to overnight go from Nirvana, Metallica etc to piano, and I’ve never had time to look back. In subsequent months a Bolet Decca got me in to Liszt, KZ’s Chopin Balls CD to Chopin, etc. In more recent years (as in last 20) the above names are some I could think of who have turned me on to works I didn’t like before hearing them play them. And I’m sure there are lots more.

Not a fan of Schiff’s Scarlatti, I think. A friend told me 4-5 years the rec I had heard suck. Still keep open mind.

I was just thinking as I love a lot of Schiff’s Bach, and Scarlatti requires the same crisp Baroque articulation but Schiff seems a bit serious to really take risks and have fun with Scarlatti…actually the best Scarlatti I heard live was from Sudbin, I like his little tweaks too.

I don’t think I think about pieces this way, but I’ll think about it.
