This especially tends to happen with pieces that we are either involuntarily exposed to too often or are addicted to them for a phase and then burn ourselves out on them.
I know this happens to a lot of people with Concerti like Rach 2 & 3 etc but often all it takes is an extended break and a renewal of interest brought on by a particularly fresh performance!
A lot of Chopin. I played loads of polonaises, mazurkas and some nocturnes when I was a teenager. Just can’t be bothered with them now, with a few rare exceptions.
I think about this a lot. I actually try to listen to different pieces all the time so I don’t get sick of any of the pieces I love

I was never really into Liszt, but the pieces by him that I loved (like the sonata) would fall into this category. Late Liszt is still so bizarre that it stays fascinating, but whoever said Liszt is young man’s music might have nailed it.

There are a lot of pieces that I don’t want to listen to, but when I do I still enjoy, such as the Rach 2 and 3, and the Tchaikovsky First. Then there are pieces I’m not against listening to, but rarely enjoy, such as D960, a lot of Chopin and the Rachmaninoff preludes.
