Rostropovich - Rachmaninoff Cello Sonata

Easily one of the great recordings of this incredible piece.

Mstislav Rostropovich (Cello), Alexander Dedyukhin (Piano), Date of Recording: 12/1956, Venue: Polskie Nagrania, Warsaw, Poland

haha randomly i never found diz recording to buy it in Poland what a shame , tho i love my country its starting to piss me off in every single aspect.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrreat performance. Respect for le upload!

such a pity he passed away recently. He was a great virtuoso, of the old traditions.

I haven’t heard this recording… would it be difficult to refresh the link? I bet it’s a fine recording of one of my favorite works!

MANY THANKS!!! Wow, this has been an adrenaline rush of listening!

I’ll post H. Schiff / Leonskaja, which is my favourite rec at the moment.

randomly, I’d also u/l the very commercial rec of Yo-yo Ma / Emanuel Ax.

I certainly appreciated the Ax after listening to this particular chamber rec.

Ax himself said he enjoys playing chmaber more than solo too

and yes, Rosp’s rach cello sonata, made me totally fall in love with this piece

amazing, i would even go to the extend saying it’s one of the best piano work by Rach

It is. Try listening to it after you’ve had a shitty day at work. It beats the 2  trios hands down, in my book.

I absolutely love the recording with Ma and Ax.

ma combo be da Rozpo Rach cellozon + da Richter Dvorak quintet Op.81
pure chamber heaven

Personally, I tend to take the Richter/Oistrakh Franck Sonata over the Rach Cello Sonata most days.

But it’s definitely a close call.

Oistrakh totally deserves more respect and public recognition.

He’s still not known as the greatest violinist.

True. So many of his greatest recordings are on out of print Melodiya discs. Like his 1938 Tchaik Concerto… just nuts.

He is, but only among violinists.

koji

Thanks for this link- I’ve been looking for this for a while.

Wow, just listened to this! Incredible! Very special indeed, and the pianist in fantastic form!

A very special recording of this in addition to this one is the Kurz/Kapell
one released in the chamber music disc of the RCA Kapell series. Kurz is a fine cellist, but Kapell is in astounding form for this recording.
