Good rec?

I was trying to decide on which Sibelius recs to put on my MP3 player the other day… I settled on Barbirolli’s complete set, plus Szell’s No. 2, Jansons’ early No. 2, Maazel’s 4 & 7 and Ormandy’s 5.

I could use a solid rec of 3 & 6 though, so I’ll have a listen and see if this is the one.

Respect

i’m not a fan of the 6th in general, i think this is a good 3 and 7 rec. not cosmically genius but solid and beautiful

I think I might end up pilfering a 3rd and 6th from one of the more acclaimed sets - like Berglund or Jarvi or Vanska. Jansons too, is always solid.

I like to have two or more recordings of every major work on my player, though I could probably make an exception in this case - the 3rd and 6th are probably the weakest Sibelius symphonies, imo.

7 is probably my favorite and I think this perf includes some of that vast, glacial atmosphere so typical of sibelius and so stereotypically finnish
