Shit. He was one of the greats, no doubt. His recordings of Czech music are among the very best.
His Mozart, particularly the operas. are revelatory. Showed a completely new way to approach the works, which is not a legacy many conductors leave. His Janacek is wonderful beyond words.
i didn’t know him beyond his name… i’ll have to check out some recordings now. always too bad when a good artist goes
