I currently can stretch a ninth in each hand. Has anyone done anything special to increase their reach? Exercises? Etudes? Repertoire?
Are there any works in the repertoire that really need a big stretch?
Thanks!

i don’t really think you can increase your reach once your hand size has become its fullest, unless you just loosen up the muscles by acquiring greater technical facility…
schumann had a good method though, i’m pretty sure
Attempt the C-major chord of the Schumann Toccata - bar 25, first beat: guaranteed results.
Just don’t use your nose for da middle C note. or your
Started learning a new Alkan piece, makes my hand feel so friggen small even though I can reach a 10th in each hand lol.
I can reach C-F (11th) not too comfortably, and parallel 10ths aren’t much of a problem,
but it’s strange… I don’t have the longest fingers, but big palms and flexible fingers/hand.
???
Anyway, on my spare time I always do this stretch because it feels good:
I put my right hand in between two fingers of my left (or vice versa) and position it so that the thumb and pinky of the RH are touching the fingers, and I go from the webbing outwards, while flexing the RG finger outwards… to stretch the two fingers of the LH sideways…
The LH fingers stay parallel to eachother while I do this.
I don’t know if that makes sense, but it works for me. I have mad stretch from years of doing this (or so I think this is the reason).
that is how aki takahashi stretches her hands before a performance. she can barely take a 9th i think though.
I can sort of stretch a 10th in my lh but my rh struggles. After playing out of doors, this is even more obvious!
There’s a lot of lh chords with wide voicing and I think my lh has adapted. So it is maybe possible over a long period of time.
