Great! Now, my wish list (any rec/s from the following):
Rubinstein/Chopin (RCA stuff)
Schnabel/Sargent Beethoven PCs
Horowitz EMI recs
Melodia obscure piano recs (Alexeev, Gavrilov et al)
Frager Prok PC2
I would second da obscure melodia sheeyat. In fact, doesn’t even have to be obscure, cause none of that stuff is on Spotify or anywhere unless it’s been re-issued.
I am really interested to hear more Petrov if you can find any. Loved dat Prokofiev you posted before and really haven’t heard any thing else from him, other than da random youtube vids. Other ProkSons or Concertos would be awesome. Or Liszt I hear he’s good too.
Cool! I got Ruby’s Chopin Sonatas from 61. RCA sadly still using their boxy recording style then. I also got some Melodiya stuff. Think a kraniev Shostakovich concerto for example. Will redo the petrov 3rd and 8th prok as well.
Sweet! They’ll come a bit slower. Work insane post launch.
As heads up my cartridge was off spec in above recording. In all the reviews they mention a huge bump around 13.6khz which I thought had something to do with cantilever vibration. I noticed this growing as I used the cart.
I studied their diagram a little and they use a shader plate assembly
From speaking with one of their engineers the assembly is modified to assure no 13khz bump in the 22K dollar model (more than 10 times my model) and there was nothing that could be done. Pass!
So I whipped out a razor and started noodling with the saddle that anchors the shader plate thinking it must be coming lose and amplifying stylus travel in a non linear fashion. The sensor is stable and accurate so figured if I noodle it perfectly even with drift, I might be able to exceed their production spec or at least get it back to newer use parameters.
And so it was so! I was able to get it back below spec they site and nearish the 20k number (treble spike anyway)
Will post the third sonata without the need for softening the treble spike and the impact that has on tonality… Stay tuned.
It does sound good! Almost as good as the super pro Japanese reissue and some things better. It’s getting there. Gonna redo Horowitz scrib preludes next. I got an idea there f
Randomly the liner notes on the album say this is his first studio recording of the B minor sonata! He was like 1000 years old then. Surprising.
The mogilevsky got from discogs. I usually hit the ebay though and buy little batches when I see them. Is why some conditions is pretty shit. But some times good too so evens out and don’t hit the wallet as hard.
About half the time they are close and if you go visual things look right almost always. I dun buy too much from there but there is a rating system that has kept the handful of stuff I snagged at discogs on up and up. Ebay wild west a bit.
