to play evenly when positioned on black keys with thumb

So there are sections in the Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme by Pagannini where the fingers are divided unidiomatically among black and white keys, sometimes the thumb starting on black key, sometimes not.

A particularly annoying section to get evenly for me is these arpeggios which span 3 octaves and spread the hand.

To get precision, should I do pp practice, staccato, using as little of the key as possible and keeping my hand close, or something like F practice with my fingers lifted high, etc?

discuss

for me with these type of passage i always practise hand close, and all type pp, ff, legato, staccato sheeyat (most importantly fo me is hand close economy of motion sheeyat)

i c :lib:

I agree with this,

so far i’ve been doing this… except i also incorporate lifting fingers high… i need to eliminate this.

haha
y u wanna play evenly?? :doc: :stop:

haha right, cause Hamelin doesn’t play evenly at all…

well i figured out my problem

the section in particular i have problems with is supposed to be played like quick rolled chords

whoops… all fingers… i guess it helped my dexterity either way

Which part/variation is dat? just curious.

hahahahha da dreaded :ziff: :brotha:

in the 2nd half near the end right after the running weird scales… where it bursts into arpeggios which cover a good span

I believe its Var 22

You have to place the right hand on the postition that will be used to play the notes…

this will work if you have a good stretch…
