Apart from whatā€™s been said about Bach already, for young pianists I think it helps just to get used to studying the score. With Bach you inevitably have to make lots of little musical decisions, in the Fugues practically by the bar. Everything from how to divide voices between the hands to where the listenersā€™ attention should be and how to phrase to make that happen - along with generally healthy habits like attention to pianistic detail, maintaining clarity and keeping a proper rhythm which arise naturally in Bach. In Chopin, you can just think melody/accompaniment and start playing, but if youā€™re used to this bar-by-bar creativity from Bach along with the thoroughly worked through pianism required there, youā€™ll draw more quality from the score.

Agreed with every word you wrote. Also, as Iā€™ve often noticed with my own pupils, itā€™s rare that da beginners DONā€™T like Bachā€™s music. Iā€™m not talking about the P & Fs or even the Inventions, but thereā€™s lots of simpler didactic yet attractive music (short little pieces) that he wrote that basically requires the same approach when studying it.
