What could that possibly mean?
Hahah tiz a bit lyk zpoken vocabulary
U cud argue(if u iz retarded) our zpoken/written proze iz non-improvizatory from a cumpletely phonetic baziz but we iz takin eztablizhed vocabulary and zpontaniouzly uzin dem to exprezz ourzelvez in nu wayz
Zo in dat zenze, muzical improv iz mo lyk buildin a frezh mozaic from tiny nuggetz ov runz chordz n zheeyatz , ratha den a raw āzound paintingā ov cumpletely original ideaz
DAYUM da COMME buy diz ztand?
If so, fo wut?
And is it safe from DaTM?
A foxy little minx, no doubt about it
tru thiz all makez zenze n i agree
i think tha WHALE wuz zayin no one juz improvize ex nihilo n i wud argu that heāz correct; if u iz uzin a random ājazz zcaleā that iz lyk u zay eztablizhd vocabulary; tha LATIN improvizuz tranzlat to āunforzeenā which debatably n definizheeyatly any idiom iz not, but then again a deceptiv cadence iz on zum level unforzeen but iz it really? u alwayz kno when tha BROTHA hitz a dominant 7th ther iz tha pozzibility of goin to tha VI inztead - a tru deceptiv cadence wud be: V7 - take a dump in tha 88 - pazz out - wake up - V7 again (but thiz tym on prepard 88)
tru zo whut iz clear iz i haff no idea whut im zayin n tha WHALE wuz lykly juz bein a bit of a dick
Maybe Boris should have a listen to this legend:
They werenāt playing Tatum or Peterson
Fine next time da x will make sushi bootleg
Maybe dat guy need to liztn zum WHALE tho
Bazed on da vid of da tryin to play jazz (and zounding like hiz momma fell down a huge flight of ztairz n downed obzcene amountz of moonzhine while zhe wuz pregnant) Iām gonna go ahead and dizregard whatever he sayz on da subject
wut da whale alzo zay iz da buildin blockz fo jazz are not really tiny
example zum jazzmofo play a cool fazt run in Emaj pentatonic
azk him to tranzpoze it
dey canāt do it
dey learnt diz zpecific run on da zpecific key pianiztically
dey learnt othah runz on othah keyz etcā¦
zo dey think with much mo hugeah block den clazz mofoz
I would say the opposite is actually true. Every jazz dude Iāve ever known has a much more solid theoretical background than classical mofos. You have to know your scales, progressions, modes, etc to be able to do anything in Jazz. I donāt think any decent Jazz pianist would have any trouble switching between keys.
Da same can be said for many virtuosic figurations.
Da jazz mofos would be able to play the same standard in anotha key if they wanted
Haha u mofo.
Dat iz 100% inkorrect. Unlezz uāve been hangin out wiff sheeyat jazz muzicianz. Every pro-level jazz muzician I know can do that eazily. Hell, even undergrad kidz are told to learn to play ztandardz in all 12 keyz. Mozt proz can tranzpoze a tune in any key on the zpot (without zheet muzic) even if theyāve only played dat zpecific tune in 1 or 2 keyz befoh.
And Iām not even talking about world-clazz mofoz who haff INZANE earz, time n rhythm chopz.
From a listeners point of view if someone is improvising or not means nothing to me. I care about how the music sounds
My two cents:
Impro is a different aesthetic den compo
N we iz living in an age of detail-oriented CUCKS snoring thru overedited CDs with an urtext (full of misprints they were present in the autograph and that any editor with COMMON SENSE would correct. Iām looking at you HENLE) open on their lap
So, da ROUGHNESS of an impro will not compare well to a standard perf of a masterwork
Impro is a way to explore some ideas before turning it into a full fledged compo
It also can be just a compilation of premade bags of tricks.
Or it can be a warmup tool
To me, and I think Iām abnormal because my training, such as it has been, was also unconventional, impro is an ABSOLUTELY FUNDAMENTAL part of my personal aesthetic and as natural as walking.
Iām increasingly sure I could literally sit at a piano and impro all day then edit it together into coherent pieces. Tbh Iām quite tempted to try.

Every jazz dude Iāve ever known has a much more solid theoretical background than classical mofos. Y
This legendary vid.
Here you can listen to Chick Corea, one of the worldās greatest jazz pianist, play a Scriabin prelude. His playing might be the worst performance of a classical piece of music ever caught on audio. It is simply extremely bad
