also randomly I don’t know where the T came from in Tchaikovsky, using letter replacement it is Chaikovskiy so why didn’t Chaikovsky catch on?
haha I never finished this book.
Both French and German don’t pronounce “ch” as the Russians do - in German it’s like Russian “x”/“kh” and in French it’s just “sh”, so the T was added to ensure the “ch” sound.
Actually that’s true and makes sense, I guess I was thinking in terms of English. It’s weird in English we prefer to preserve the spelling but fuck up the pronunciation where in other languages (like french) they change the spelling to get a closer pronunciation.

haha, btw, i was watching some wanderer vid on youtube, and someone mentioned JEWGENI KISSINS wanderer.  At first I thought he was being anti-semitic, but then I realized he was just german (which isn’t quite a suff cond 4 antisemitism)  ![]()
