The fatty bored so bought 6 pounds of wax. I gonna mold that Tatum disc I am torturing then cast it using wood glue while I wait for proper epoxy stuff to arrive. Its coated in teflon and boron nitride at this point so probs won’t stick I’m thinking.
Its pretty easy to make that stuff. The pocket pussy industrial complex controls the knowledge to keep prices high I bet.
Worked on the digital curve stuff a bit. The genius russky guy behind the E1 ADC had a firmware version that did RIAA in the DSP portion of the ADC Sabre chip.
Wikid result altho I had to tweak by ear for historical curve compliance. Also took this with more headroom.
This shit gonna be wikid as fuck when I get real cartridges.
Works, but I’m not sure at what pressure this implodes and maims me.
Hmm turned hard as soon as it hit the record so not sure if it got down into grooves hmm.
Easy fix if no, just heat up record too.
First go unlikely to work, but at least nothing blew up or burned me. That bondage candle vid oddly helpful. I got some on my hand but was cool cuz I knew my burn duration.
Hmm the good news is the boron nitride I sprayed on the pan gave full release ![]()
The bad news is I forgot to spray on the record so this wax maybe never coming off.
Hmmmm
Yeah those got shipped to Seattle. Is probably for best.
A bunch of lost takes of Bartok playing late Liszt def should not be melted. Tho don’t know what they are…
I wonder if I warm up the wax and use my liquid nitrogen on the record maybe it shrink and release.
Maybe wax shrink more and I try that side with liquid nitrogen sheeyat?
Will think about it today and mess with it Friday.
All unlabeled… some needs to be pressed from the plates which is part of why I’m futzing with this stuff.
If anything looks serious. I’ll send to marston.
This isn’t going to be easy but it might work.
Froze the record with liquid nitrogen. Didn’t release exactly, but it shrank a bit and I could flex the wax to peel off.
Need more wax to prevent tear through, and more release stuff.
Ultra randomly, when got remainder wax off the side I was working on the surface looked much better. I think cooking in that greasy wax may have conditioned the shellac somehow.
Will transfer after dinner to see if surface still exists or if it’s optical illusion.
If you look closely here the irregular crystallization/hardening of the wax due to low record temp made for variable surface quality.
The learnings:
- Heat record and wax slowly cool
- Use more wax to reduce tear through
- Spray everything with release sheeyat
- Form a gasket to prevent under pooling on reverse side. Cutting that out was a bitch.
- Beeswax melts at 140 and shellac 170 so you can sorta clean things off
Hmm. Edges were shredded and chipped so when I washed the record it got edge cancer and died.
Respect this twist ending after being tortured for a while.
Looking closely at this bugger before I trash it. Some minor warping from all the hot cold trauma.
Double hmmmm
Ok, trying with paraffin next go. It melts at 122.
Cooked it in over to dry and flatten. This fucker still plays! This like John Wick of records. Will post transfer in a bit.
Wow surface really rough now. Gonna try to enamel on graphite.
Nope full surface death.
Ok time for main event now that I’ve discovered wax kinda sucks. Silicone !
Also, cancelled the paraffin order. I was just being cheap trying to make wax work.
… and silicone
Wife material poss. Thought experiment, if she roughly 50kg without boobs, then boob job 20% of her weight.
