A Star Trek convention had less geeks and freaks. I had at least two people ask me about some bullshit “thumb under/over” huge controversy about playing scales? I beat a hasty retreat.
God, that’s another thing I hated about the “normal” forums, all that Chang BS.
It’s funny, but I only started to sort out my technique when I started doing a couple hours of scales and exercises a day.
Maybe people who are just natural pianists can get by without it, but that wasn’t the case for me at least.
True, and this irreverence was the best part of the original SDC.
Especially since most of the people on the chopinfiles were teenagers like us but took themselves so seriously.
It was hilarious to see how bent out of shape they were by the lingo.
That was the case for me, and I think it still is for others today. I haven’t minded the lingo once I realized this place isn’t inhabited by a bunch of morons, but I told most of my friends about the forum when I signed up this spring but as far I know only three joined, and they’re all lurkers. We haven’t talked about it, but I think they simply felt that this is a hard place to connect with.
This could use some brushing up. I tried to pitch that Tiempo was an excellent pianist here a couple of months ago, but NOOOOOOPE. That was all empty virtuosheeyat.
Couldn’t agree more with that statement. And the same is true for a lot of the late Brahms and Schubert pieces. Certain great pianists started that “tradition” but unfortunately what worked for them doesn’t work for pianists of a lesser caliber.
