I think it’s very possible to still play extremely well up until 70, but it seems to be incredibly rare to still play at that level at 75. As mentioned Argerich is there without any significant dropoff, but Pollini has completely come apart (and his tech was better back in the day). Katsaris should retire, but not because of a technical decline.
Yeah I know you’re into that stuff. Well if you want I can go to that recital I mentioned and bootleg it for you. It’s in a church and he’s also playing some organ sheeyats. I don’t really know how to record in such a place (and organ too) so no promises as to the sound quality.
Yeah I like him, but for some reason he doesn’t seem to play recitals here. I saw him play the Liszt 2nd concerto last year (might have even been this year, I can’t remember) but that’s it.
I’m honestly with da Brew (n da xsdc dun back from bein harzh ). I love 80s and 90s Katsaris, but his recent stuff haven’t been all that fun. Just like everyone else I think he fell through around 2001. It’s as if the bulk of the world’s pianistic mana was stored in the twin towers. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Agreed also on the ages. Pianists play well up to 69. Then they play like shit for 10 years until they sometimes reinvent themselves in their 80s. No exceptions.
If he was more capable of a bigger sound I would consider him top 5 living material. I love his early pimp trannies cd, makes da LEZBO look like the third rater he is.
Can’t remember, but I don’t it was anything that interested me. I couldn’t find the announcement anymore either. If he’d play one of those Beethoven-Liszts, I would definitely attend.
