Randomly, there’s a rectal on the philharmonie live site from Pollini in 2002 when he still had his tech. I’ll try to link here but it’s from the app so don’t know if it’ll work.

This Pollini video is worth watching. Very interesting and well put together programme. Actually even now he usually puts together good programmes, he just can’t play them.
Da Ztockhauzen worthh watchin tru fo CG value
You don’t like Stockhausen? I heard VBM play some of his sheeyat live once.
Find it intereztin n tiz a bit ov an experience lyk da 4’33…u zumhow make muzik out of any randomnezz via da logical procezz ov yo brain. But in da end ztill zound random n a bit pointlezz
I think he’s been rough as hell ever since 1971 or thereabouts, but it’s actually in Stockhausen and the like I think he’s been at his best since. Good organizational skillz.
I will randomly have the honour of hearing this mighty legend as the grand finale of our recital season next year. Can’t wait… /
Jeez, good luck with that!
I doubt I’ll be there. In fact I doubt I’ll be anywhere at all this season aside from at GS and Cho. Even GS is a bit up in the air actually since I might be away that weekend.
I really like the music that came out of this period: Cage, Boulez, Stockhausen, Ligeti etc. I really got into this music when I did a paper on Cage and Boulez at school and spent a semester researching their music. I have actually heard 4’33" performed live. Personally, I think it’s a gimmick, or a philosophical statement rather than actual music. Cage’s prepared piano stuff is really wikid though. It almost sounds like a Gamelan (which I also used to play in at school).
Let me know what you think of Cho. I passed on him last year and kind of regret it. I’m not a huge fan of his Chopin, but his Debussy disc was very impressive.
I’m curious too - I like what I’ve heard from him, even though it has been a bit… well he clearly won the Chopin Competition. It will be fun to hear him live after which I’ll definitely have a measure of him.
I’m normally not very fond of Stockhausen, Schönberg and the like, but Hamelin did Cage’s Perilous Night a few years ago which actually became my favourite MAH rec that season. 4’33 is good too, you can tell from any concert audience that it requires a real pro to pull it off.
Beautiful of music like 4’33 is all in what you make of it…the music is as much invented by your imagination as anything else.
Therefore if Schubert heard da 4’33 he would hear a sublime gensui compo
fo da tm it’s a tranny show with trif messing up the Liszt sonata in the background
Ahem, and da Vol.
Yes hopefully at least. It’s not easy for me to travel alas, but I’ll know after Christmas if it works or not.
Haha, the forum software tells me to back off since I’ve already posted 20% of the messages in this thread.
It’s probably a good point actually.
Tell da zoftware to fuck off
Oh, but you got da ticket right? Hope you can make it, dat bootleg has potential to be one of one for the history books, in terms of sound quality at least.
Yup, got da ticket. It would be bad luck if it doesn’t work, but I don’t dare to take anything for granted. I’ll book hotel + travel in Jan when I know how things look.
If I can’t go my offer to send a pair of mics over still stands if you’d like to give it a try, but I can’t offer a recorder on top of it alas (…since the MD I have now sells for ridiculous completely fair & warranted second hand prices. I’d hate for it to break!).
sokolov is kinda insane still despite his age
