I feel like it’s not Richter’s fault all his perfs were recorded after 1950’s or so
he was building rep so much he didn’t even bother to learn things properly before unleashing them on radio broadcasts sum of the time, he didn’t know every scrap gonna be issued.
60’s stuff with core rep was far more refined imo.
He had full decades where he didn’t bother producing a nice tone at all but people lapping at his balls (rightly so) cuz of memory of 50s recs yeah. He genius and do what he want tho. Liu guy def not a genius tho.
I think 1965 stuff started to sound pretty interesting but da insane rep building phase 1940’s-1950’s stuff got so much raw rape.

I tried out for that comp too and did not pass preselection. I think one of like 40+ comp applications I wasted my time on 2010-2019
I spent less in da comp circuit den most mofos and da no-pass saved me a ton on airfare cuz I did not even get to participate LOL

That was herbst theather balcony (main reason it was nice) and the extremely low noise in ear mics recording binaural so perfecto headphone playback for my head size and ear shape)
When I listen back cuz it’s my phyiology around the mics it’s exactly like being there. If you head different shape or ears different shape may confuse the brain and not be quite right sounding tho.

reportedly da slit fine on recs but muddy overpedalled poorly-balanced sheeyat with no projection out in da hall (this feedback from mofos who heard Horowitz and Ziff live so pozz unfair LOL)
That hall I caught a number of concerts. The Zlata waaay overplayed the hall but it was still cool. The only pianist who immediately found a perfect balance in there (was a smaller hall but weird acoustic) was that chopin guy who got the shit review. Hands down best player of the season. Refined as fuck without being static and icy.
heh heh that kind of approach can kill a studio rec yeah, gotta know how to tone shit down too.
Listening to this most recent perf of that guy. NOBODY listen to him or care about his shit but he’s kind of an important chopin pianist stylistically. Rare perfecto style actually go with fluid interp style.

I see some similarities in smoothness and flow between sara david and this guy but he’s more willing to rubato the fuck out of things and have a finish level which good enough to merit a bad review apparently.
