I generally like Nat a lot. But yeah this is bothersome. Isn’t there a live version of Nat in then Fantasie out there? In the limited live stuff from Nat out there he seems pretty unbuttoned.
Depends on who is playing it and the pace of the performance. Cliburn integrates it nicely, especially in his Moscow recording. The pacing is just right, not nearly as heavy as the official live recording from NY. Sokolov too makes a very good case for the ossia.
If you want to have it both ways, there is always Andre Watts’ Frankenstein version.
His live 1953 Fantasie is pretty full of wrong notes in the leaps section, but is still quite a lot better than this studio rec.
Wow, I don’t want to say “butchered” because relative to other recordings it’s only below average…He still gets the spirit though and that’s what counts.
Given the amount of total missed notes from all of these greats I think it’s safe to say that this is one of the trickiest passages in the Romantic canon.
- Tru
- Ghey
How about an SDC contezt? We all play only THAT fucking passage.
Prizez for:
- best rape
- best haccuracy
- best fuck-up
- best fury
Etc. etc.
Ahahaha yez
Personally, I never worked on it
My leaps regimen is:
Pimp Meph 1, TE 8
Rocky Pag rappah last Var mini leaps
Da Chopzon 2 second movement closing sects
Leaps is best practiced wizout looking, grabbing each one from da key, slowly.
Den increase tempo.
I didn’t practize it either except zome of da lazt octavez
Da leapz in DJ and da Kanpreux iz enuff workout fo me
Tiz will be interezting
This is still my fav live version of the leaps:
Ahaha da fury
Who iz playing?
Da Shoe quite unique in dat tiz not very peniztick sumhow, the whole passage feels rather awkward because of dem pinkies refusing to cooperate. You have to really memorize the whole bloody thing carefully and watch the keyz, not the score.
Alzo zeemz to me dat da left hand much worze in diz caze altho both iz tricky
